Matang Wildlife Centre is located at the western corner of the Kubah National Park, Sarawak’s main center for wildlife rehabilitation and is covers around 180 hectares of lowland forest. Approximately 35 KM from Kuching (40 minutes from Kuching).
This center is responsible for rescuing and helping a wide variety of animals back into the wild. Ranging from orang utan and sun bears to hornbills and sea eagles all of which can be view in natural enclosures in a rainforest setting.
The rescued animals being rehabilitated here include orang utan, sun bears, bear cats, civet cats, sambar deer, barking deer, porcupines and crocodiles, all of which can be viewed in spacious natural enclosures. A large aviary houses a variety of hornbills, as well as brahminy kites and sea eagles.
Nature trail through Kubah National passing through some of the most impressive rainforest scenery in Sarawak. Along the way visitors will pass clear jungle waterfalls and see dozens of fascinating plant species including rare plants, orchids and pitcher plants.
The best time to visit the Centre is from 9.00 to 11.30 am in the morning and 2.00 to 4.00pm if you want to see the animal feeding and the animal at the enclosure.
All visitors to the Centre are charge an entrance fee.

The aim of the centre is:
Education - Students from primary to tertiary institutions can do nature studies as a supplement to their classroom activities. Special groups and the general public are also welcome.
Research - The Centre will cater for researchers from local and overseas universities.
Conservation - Endangered animal species confiscated from the public will be rehabilitated here as an effort to promote awareness on the conservation of these species.
Recreation - Visitors can relax by the rock pools and waterfalls, or trek along the nature trails.
Matang Wildlife Centre is also a good site for weekend picnic and also jungle trekking with the presence of rock pools…swimming area and well-marked jungle trails.
The Pitcher Trail is a 2 hours journey circular path through forest…sporting different type of pitcher plant species on the forest floor.
The Rayu Trail is 3-4 hours journey one way ended at Kubah National Park HQ. It’s an exciting and interesting journey as you passes different plants species and other habitats of the forest.
The 2 hours one way journey Sungai Buluh Trail leads to two secluded waterfalls…so make sure that you have time for the return journey.
Accommodations and other Facilities at Matang Wildlife Centre:
The Centre has number of facilities provided for the convenient of the visitors. The centre has an information centre…small canteen and an ample parking space. There are also Forest Lodge…Hostel and camping for accommodations.
Beside the accommodations at the Centre…there are also accommodation facilities at Kubah National Parks…The Kebun and the Homestay at the nearby village.
